Connecticut is way more than the humble neighbour of New York. It’s a happening web of energy and elegance, and its authentic charm woos visitors throughout the year. In parts rural and rustic, it has rightly inspired lots of art throughout history, and continues to do so. It’s also the home of many fantastic festivals, with celebrations of food, drinks, music, culture and heritage – and more unique events dedicated to miscellany like oysters, apples and flowers.
The Bridgewater County Fair is a proud and historical long-running institution for those who call Connecticut home. The festival seeks to preserve the glorious days of times gone by, with classic and traditional attractions and events. Now updated to appeal to dwellers of today, it’s a welcoming amalgamation of farmers, country folk and city slickers, all enjoying arts, crafts, fresh produce, vegetable competitions, livestock contests, music, shows and rides - along with the ever-popular annual parade. It’s also a great place to chow down, with loads of local and international vendors to excite your taste buds.
If there’s a place to attend a Christmas festival, it’s surely in a town called Bethlehem. Connecticut’s very own biblical namesake hosts the frosty and festive celebration of the Christmas Town Festival each December, which is a great family favourite. It’s packed with festive frolics! You can meet Santa, listen to the dulcet tones of local choirs, get your face painted, take a wagon ride, hop aboard a mini rail track and plenty more. The event is jam-packed with festive sights, sounds and smells, so it’s an ideal spot to grab a mulled wine, nibble a mince pie and settle into the warm and wintry festive spirit.
Gathering of the Vibes music festival is an annual green event, dedicated to embracing nature, sharing, caring, camping in the great outdoors and kicking back to some top tunes. In previous years, a whole host of big and upcoming names have played here, including artists like James Brown, Elvis Costello, Damian Marley, Nas and more. Each year, the chilled-out VibeTribe gets together and invites others to join the fun, with a carefree focus on laughter and love.
Connecticut also offers festivals to glorify many weird and wonderful things as diverse as pumpkins, garlic, owls, ales, history, boats, films and more, so you can be sure to find something you love.
