Milwaukee is often called Beer City due to its numerous breweries but it has another nickname that is equally apt, the City of Festivals. Of course, the two meet annually during the city's Brewfest.
Throughout the year, there are numerous festivals in Milwaukee. The summer kicks off with the LGBT PrideFest and from that point on the city comes alive with various celebrations, many of which are dedicated to the city's varied ethnicities. There are Polish, German, Irish, Mexican and Indian festivals that celebrate the heritage of all these cultures through music, dance, cuisine and street art. These continue through the fall and into the winter when they culminate in the Holiday Lights Festival that illuminates the city in an array of multiple colors and fills the streets with Christmas cheer.
Milwaukee music festivals are a highlight of various events. The biggest of which is Summerfest. Lasting eleven days and featuring performances on eleven stages that include music of all genres, it often claims to be the world's biggest music festival. Other Milwaukee events of interest include the Wisconsin State Fair, the Fourth of July Parade and Celebration, Bastille Days and many more.
