Since 1986, the Decatur Celebration has been the city's premier event for the summer. Drawing 125,000 people in its first year, the event has gotten bigger every year, taking over the downtown for three days in early August. The Decatur Celebration features a variety of fun activities, including stunt shows, science exhibitions, hot dog eating contests, aerial demonstrations, and the carnival. Several stages are set up throughout downtown Decatur that feature a wide range of music, from local bands and musicians to ones that have hit the Billboard charts.
