Detroit is the birthplace of the Motown sound and a laboratory for techno sounds. Every year since May 2000, fans of electronic music have flocked to downtown Detroit from around the world to enjoy pounding beats and layered rhythms created by scores of leading musicians and DJs. During the three-day Memorial Day Weekend, the festival often draws more than 1 million people to sprawling Hart Plaza on the edge of the Detroit River.
